How come some babies take a pacifier and some dont....?

i have 3 kids and due with the 4th one... i have a 1 year old girl a about to be 2 year old on the 16th and a 3 yr old.... the only one that took a pacifier and hated to give it up was my 3 year old.... but i wonder why my others hated it... i hope this one takes it.. because when my 3 year old was on it he never cried it was like either he was hungry or he wanted that pacifier... my fiance hated that though lol we took it away at 2 yrs old..
