Can you argue with a blackjack dealer?

recently I was at a casino and the new dealer who came to the table started questioning my reasons when I hit and proceeded to say "if you dont know how to play get off the table." I have been playing for a while and have won more money than I've lost but I did not want to argue and get thrown out. For future reference, can you argue with a dealer? and if so to what extent?
